Dylan Strome scores first career overtime-winning goal in Capitals’ thrilling 4-3 win over Sabres

Dylan Strome scored one of the most exciting goals of his career in the Capitals’ 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, Wednesday.

“It’s a big win,” Strome said postgame. “A character win. We battled all game.”

Sparked by a large and loud Capsgiving crowd, Strome authored the primary assist on Tom Wilson’s game-tying goal with 1:15 remaining. Then late in overtime, Strome found the back of the net on a two-on-one with eight seconds to go, sending the Capital One Arena crowd into jubilation.

Very happy Capitals celebrate beating defending champs in locker room: ‘F$%in A right! Let’s go!’

The Washington Capitals came into Tuesday night’s matchup with the Vegas Golden Knights huge underdogs and a long shot to win. The defending champions were -155 favorites (ESPN) and had won 12 of their first 15 games, sitting at the top of the league standings.

But the Capitals, younger and scrappier than in years past, found a way to win, combining fantastic goaltending, opportunistic scoring, and hard work on defense.

Inside the victorious locker room, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery shouted out four different players for their contributions to the win. Unlike his predecessor, who gave out postgame awards like axes and ninja headbands, Carbery kept it real.

Dylan Strome has gone on a tear since getting hit in the face with a puck, scoring six goals in his last five games

Sometimes in combat sports, a significant strike — no matter if it’s a huge punch to the face or a painful inside leg kick — can wake up a talented but slow-starting MMA fighter. Sure, it causes them pain, but it can also catapult them to another level that they didn’t even know they had.

Dylan Strome appears to have gone through that same experience — no matter if it’s a coincidence or not.

Strome started the first three games of the season goalless and pointless. Then a figurative splash of cold water arrived via a six ounce disc of vulcanized rubber.

Capitals spend time with children from local cancer charities at post-practice Hockey Fights Cancer Skate

The Washington Capitals had some new additions to the team on Saturday as they hosted their annual Hockey Fights Cancer skate. Following the conclusion of practice, children from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Mid-Atlantic Region, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, Horizon Day Camp, and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network all joined the team out on the ice.

Smiles and laughter abounded at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, whether participants were brand-new skaters, more experienced, or had even attended prior events.

Spencer Carbery completely changes Capitals’ lines again ahead of Wild game

Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery is taking a hammer to his forward lines once again after the team’s first regulation victory of the season, a 6-4 shootout against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. Carbery introduced the new forward groupings during the team’s morning skate ahead of its game against the Minnesota Wild later in the night. Many of the lines first came together against the Devils.

Most notably, the Capitals’ top line looks more similar to the end of last season, putting together Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Tom Wilson. The Matthew Phillips top-line experiment is over as the prospect has been bumped down to the bottom line.

Capitals fall to Red Wings 5-2 in penalty-filled preseason game

The Washington Capitals fell to the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 in preseason action on Saturday.

The Capitals, dressing a roster of mostly mid-tier players, were left scrambling multiple times in their own zone as Red Wings veterans took advantage.

The team showed some fight late in the second period, with Dylan Strome a part of two goals, but it was not enough.

Capitals announce roster for first preseason game under head coach Spencer Carbery

After only three days of on-ice Training Camp, the Washington Capitals will host their first game of the 2023 preseason.

Sunday, the Capitals will take on the Buffalo Sabres at Capital One Arena as Spencer Carbery makes his head coaching debut with the team.

The Capitals will sport a lineup that features a combination of veteran NHL players, minor leaguers, and prospects.

Dylan Strome suspiciously changes Instagram avatar to photo with Alex DeBrincat

Ottawa Senators forward Alex DeBrincat has received major headlines over the NHL offseason. The talented forward has refused to sign a long-term contract with the Sens and will be on the move for the second consecutive summer.

The Senators want to deal the former two-time, 40-goal scorer before the league starts its salary arbitration hearings from July 20 through August 4. If they don’t move him by then, DeBrincat’s value will plummet as he’ll be locked into a one-year deal and have no lengthy contract extension. That fact means rumors about the high-scoring winger have picked up in recent days.

Capitals center and former two-time teammate of DeBrincat, Dylan Strome, added his own fuel to those fires. He changed his Instagram profile photo to one of him and DeBrincat celebrating the OHL Championship they won together with the Erie Otters in 2017.
