WASHINGTON, DC — The Washington Capitals’ first line buoyed them to victory on Wednesday night, with Alex Tuch, Dylan Strome, and Jordan Kyrou all tallying multiple points in the 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Only one of the Capitals’ goals didn’t feature a point from a member of the first line. Tuch and Kyrou ended the night with a pair of goals apiece, while Strome tallied a trio of assists.

“We’re playing really well together,” Kyrou said of his line. “Especially on the forecheck, we’re playing pretty aggressive and taking away time and space, and we’re getting a lot of chances from that.”

Strome and Tuch kicked off the night less than two minutes after puck drop. New kid on the block Jack St. Ivany sent an initial shot at Flyers goaltender Joseph Woll, with Strome deflecting the rebound out to Tuch in the slot for a goal.

Tuch’s first goal, Strome’s first assist

Tuch’s celebration made a point to highlight St. Ivany, who earned the secondary assist in his very first shift for the Capitals.

After Sean Couturier evened the score, Kyrou scored on the power play to regain the Capitals’ lead in the second period. This time, it was Strome firing the first shot from the right circle before the puck bounced to Kyrou on the left, and Woll couldn’t recover in time to beat Kyrou on the other side of the net.

Kyrou struck just 11 seconds into the man advantage, and the Capitals never lost possession between the initial faceoff and the horn.

Midway through the third period, Kyrou added another marker to get his first multi-goal game in a Capitals uniform. The play mirrored much of what worked for Tuch’s first goal. St. Ivany made a shot at the blue line, with Strome redirecting from the slot. Woll made the stop, but he lost track of the puck as it trickled out of the netfront, leaving Kyrou with an easy opening for his second of the night.

Kyrou’s second goal, Strome’s third assist

Kyrou extended his point streak to five games, scoring three goals and five assists in a span dating back to October 14 against the Montreal Canadiens. He credited the Capitals’ locker room culture for making his adjustment easy, allowing him to quickly find his footing.

“The team has been super welcoming, for sure.” he said. “I think that helps a lot…So supportive and they’re all great, especially the staff as well. So I think that makes it easy.”

After a two-goal, one-assist performance against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, Strome’s assist on Kyrou’s second goal gave him a second straight three-point game. Per NHL PR, Strome became the first Capitals player with consecutive three-point nights since Tom Wilson managed the feat in December 2025.

“It’s my job to try to help set up Tuchy and Kyrou, and I feel like we’ve been doing a pretty good job there,” Strome said postgame.

Tuch matched Kyrou’s multi-goal performance with one of his own late in the game, scoring on the empty net once Flyers coach Rick Tocchet pulled Woll.

Tuch’s second goal

With back-to-back two-goal games — Wednesday’s outing vs. Philadelphia and a storybook showing against his former Sabres this weekend — Tuch continued what has been one of the strongest fall performances in franchise history. Tuch now has nine goals in his first 11 games this season, more than any player since Alex Ovechkin scored 10 times in 11 games to start the 2021-22 campaign.

The Tuch-Strome-Kyrou line began out of necessity, assembled while top center Pierre-Luc Dubois was out with an illness, but their success has kept them together even with a fully healthy forward corps. In the last two games alone, the trio have combined for 14 points. The underlying numbers are solid, too: per Natural Stat Trick, the Caps have 65.75% of expected goals with their line on the ice at five-on-five, out-chancing opponents a whopping 34-18 with a 9-6 advantage in high-danger chances.

Tuch, Strome, Kyrou, and the rest of the Capitals will look to continue that success on Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
