The Washington Nationals and the Washington Capitals organizations are longtime BFFs and over the weekend, the Nats showed some love to the Caps who recently started their playoff run.
During batting practice on Saturday, the Nationals wore “All Caps” hats and rocked custom-made “Cobra Kai” headbands.
Alex Ovechkin was forced to quarantine and didn’t play hockey for 10 days. When he returned, he was the same as he always was: dominant.
Ovi scored the Capitals OTGWG on Saturday, giving the undefeated-in-regulation Capitals their 15th standings point out of a possible 18. Ovechkin’s goal was historic, too. It was his 708th career goal tying him with Mike Gartner for seventh all-time on the NHL goals list.
After the game, the Capitals gave their captain props the only way they know how.
The Washington Capitals will have fans in the building for their home opener tonight at Capital One Arena – kinda, sorta. Okay, not really.
The Capitals have placed cardboard cutouts of fans and some famous people around the 100 and 200 levels.

Peter Laviolette had a bunch of free time in 2020. Canned by the Nashville Predators early in the year and then forced into quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic, Laviolette binge-watched TV to pass the time. One of the shows that he particularly enjoyed was Netflix’s Cobra Kai – a sequel series to The Karate Kid films.
Laviolette loved the show so much that he let it inspire the Capitals’ new ridiculous postgame awards. Plural. I’ll let coach explain.
