The Hershey Bears will return home facing a 2-0 series deficit in the Calder Cup Finals after having no answers for the Coachella Valley Firebirds in southern California.
The Firebirds defeated the Bears 4-0 in Game Two after a huge second period in which Coachella Valley scored four times on 13 shots.
Hershey will play the next three games at home at Giant Center as they try to claw back into the series.
The Hershey Bears were taken behind the woodshed in Game One of the Calder Cup Finals as Coachella Valley shut them out 5-0, Thursday. Hershey will need to hit the reset button quick for Game Two on Saturday.
The Bears could not solve Firebirds netminder Joey Daccord and had multiple defensive-zone breakdowns that led to grade-A chances going the other way. The Firebirds finished their opportunities while Hershey could not bury theirs.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds are apparently going to the next level to show their disdain toward their 2023 Calder Cup Final opponent, the Hershey Bears.
In a tweet posted on Thursday, the team showed their mascot Fuego destroying candy at the team’s concession stands with the caption “no chocolate allowed.”

The Hershey Bears defeated the Rochester Americans 1-0 in Game Six of the Eastern Conference Finals last Friday and secured their place in the 2023 Calder Cup Finals. It took another three days to find out who would come out of the Western Conference to play the Bears for the championship but we now know that will be the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The Firebirds beat the Milwaukee Admirals in their own six-game series and are the top affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The 2022-23 campaign is the expansion club’s inaugural season in the AHL.
