Gerardo Parra keeps ‘Baby Shark’ as walk-up song in debut with Yomiuri Giants

Over the offseason, World Series Champion and former Nationals outfielder, Gerardo Parra, signed with the Yomiuri Giants – a professional baseball team based in Tokyo, Japan. The Giants play in Nippon Professional Baseball’s Central League.

Friday, the Giants finally played their first game of the 2020 NPB season after the coronavirus pandemic delayed its start for nearly three months (March 20).

Despite no fans being in the ballpark, the Giants still played players’ walkup songs. And when Parra (number 88) came up to the plate, “Baby Shark” blared over the Tokyo Dome loudspeakers.

Gerardo Parra ‘completely overwhelmed’ that the Washington Nationals engraved Baby Shark on their World Series rings

Gerardo Parra was one of the heart-and-soul members of the Washington Nationals and his walkup song of Baby Shark helped define the culture of the 2019 World Series-winning team.

On Sunday, the Nationals revealed the design of their championship rings. The interior arbor featured a shark holding the Commissioner’s Trophy in honor of Parra. Baby Shark “took over Nationals Park every time Parra stepped to the plate,” the team wrote in a release announcing the rings.

“I’m completely overwhelmed about the honor the Washington Nationals organization gave me in our World Champions ring we earned last season,” Parra wrote on Instagram Tuesday. “I cannot say thanks enough to the organization and, of course, our fans, because you were the ones that made the Baby Shark song our anthem.”

Gerardo Parra gets incredible tattoo featuring Nationals’ World Series trophy and Baby Shark wearing red-tinted sunglasses

Gerardo Parra was only a part-time player, but he had an oversized role with the Washington Nationals during their championship season. The Venezuelan outfielder is widely credited for turning the Nationals’ season around with his walkup song, the viral children’s tune Baby Shark.

Friday, Parra commemorated the Nationals’ World Series-wining season in the most permanent way possible. The two-time gold glover got a Nationals’ championship tattoo inked on his left forearm.

And it’ll make you want to chomp with both of your arms.

Evgeny Kuznetsov did the baby shark chomp after TJ Oshie was given Capitals hard hat

Washington Nationals fan (and also very good hockey player) Evgeny Kuznetsov was one of the happiest players in the Capitals locker room after his linemate, TJ Oshie, was awarded the team’s hard hat for his two-goal performance against the Boston Bruins.

The hard hat is a Nationals batting helmet signed by the World Series-winning team. Adam Eaton gave it to the Caps the night they celebrated their championship at Capital One Arena.

This incredible Gerardo Parra bobblehead includes Baby Shark, red-tinted shades, and the World Series trophy

The Washington Nationals signed Gerardo Parra in May. The fun-loving Parra was only meant to be a reserve outfielder but, by the end of the year, he became an indispensable part of the World Series-winning team.

From his red-tinted Bubly Sparkling Water sunglasses to his Baby Shark walkup song, Parra gave this already ridiculous Nationals team an identity. After every hit, players would do a baby shark chomp that the Nats bench would mimic back. During the World Series, Parra hung a plush Baby Shark toy from the dugout steps for good luck. And at the very end of the Nationals Championship Rally, Parra stuffed a blue Daddy Shark stuffed animal into the Commissioner’s Trophy and held it high in the air in celebration.

Now there’s a Parra Baby Shark bobblehead and WHOOSH! sorry, that sound you just heard is me buying one because this is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen.

Capitals vs Nationals: Whose championship celebration was better?

Merriam-Webster should just put a photo of the Capitals and Nationals doing a conga line in the locker room to define the meaning of joy.

In 2018 and 2019, three D.C. teams — the Capitals, Nationals, and Mystics–were all finally able to celebrate the championship victories they waited and waited for for so long. They deserve our thanks and congratulations — not just for their victories, but for sharing their celebrations so openly with their fans and community.

And, since statistics make everything better and human beings love to compare things, we’ve decided to undertake a quantitative analysis of the Caps’ and Nats’ celebrations! (The Mystics are waiting to hold their parade until spring due to players’ prior commitments, but when they do, we’ll have coverage of that as well!)

When you’re ready, start playing “We Are the Champions” and “Baby Shark” at the same time, and read on.

Capitals sing ‘Baby Shark’ and give Nationals directions to fountains in celebration of World Series victory

THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! And the Washington Capitals are very, very, very, very happy about it. The team was holding their Halloween party during Game Seven, and when the Nats took the W, the Caps went crazy.

Champagne was sprayed, conga lines were formed, trophies appeared out of nowhere somehow, and the team melded the melodies of “We Are the Champions” and “Baby Shark” pretty dang well throughout.

Capitals fans do Baby Shark chomp to welcome Washington Nationals to game

The NL champion Washington Nationals were at the Capitals game on Friday. And they were intimately involved all night.

Adam Eaton announced the starting lineup in the Capitals locker room while ace Max Scherzer dropped the ceremonial first baseball.

Capitals fans also had an opportunity to welcome most of the team to the game during the first period. Wes Johnson announced the Nats were in the house over the loudspeaker during a break in play. After a montage video played, the Nats were shown on the jumbotron while the Foo Fighters’ Times Like These played overhead.

The crowd roared.

With Baby Shark looking on from the dugout, the Washington Nationals are now one win away from the World Series

The Washington Nationals throttled the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 during Game Three of the National League Championship Series Monday night. The Nationals are now only one win away from going to the World Series for the very first time.

The Nationals scored four runs in the fourth inning, spurred on by an RBI double by huge Capitals fan Adam Eaton. The Nats added four more runs in the later innings to cement the W. Stephen Strasburg struck out 12 batters — none on fastballs — and gave up no earned runs in one of the most dominant starts of his career. Howie Kendrick had three doubles and three RBI.

And looking out on it all was Baby Shark. Gerardo Parra brought a tiny, neon blue, plush shark out to the dugout steps and hung it from the netting. Baby Shark has become as important on this Nationals team as Jobu was for the fictional Cleveland Indians team from the cult-classic movie, Major League.

In which John Carlson sings ‘Baby Shark’ to Rudy Carlson

During the All-Star Skills Competition, the San Jose Sharks game entertainment crew started the pregame show with the number 32 song on the Billboard’s Top 40: Baby Shark.

The earworm song must have earworm’d into John Carlson’s brain because during the family’s bye week vacation in Florida, the Capitals defenseman sang the song to his youngest son.

Except, he changed the lyrics.
