Alex Ovechkin scored his 39th goal of the season in the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, Thursday.
Ovechkin now leads second-place goalscorers, Patrick Kane and Jeff Skinner, by five goals with 24 games remaining in the season.
With the secondary assist on TJ Oshie’s game-opening goal, Alex Ovechkin has become the highest scoring Russian-born player in NHL history.
So that’s nice.

Alex Ovechkin just keeps hitting huge milestones.
After a brutal first-period collision with TJ Oshie, the Great Eight returned to the ice and tied Detroit Red Wings great and former Capital Sergei Fedorov for most points in the NHL by a Russian born player in the second period.
Ovechkin hit the milestone by scoring his 37th goal of the season – a slapper past Frederik Andersen blocker side.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin did his best to help the Capitals end their longest losing streak in four years.
The Russian machine scored a hat trick against the San Jose Sharks, the 23rd of his career, and registered four points.
Ovi’s third goal came in the third period and gave the Capitals a 6-4 lead. The Caps would lose in overtime 7-6, their sixth-straight loss.

Roughly halfway through the first period, the St. Louis Blues put the Caps up on a power play, which has been pretty powerless of late.
But with the second unit out on the ice, Dmitry Orlov faked a slapshot, sending the puck to Alex Ovechkin.
By now, we all know what happens when Ovi takes an Ovi Shot from the Ovi Spotâ„¢. RIP Jake Allen.

The Washington Capitals won their 14th consecutive game against the Boston Bruins, Thursday. And they got a lot of help from their best players.
Nicklas Backstrom scored the game-winning goal in the third period, Braden Holtby was a brick wall making 39 saves, and Alex Ovechkin had his 128th career two-goal game.
Ovi did a bit of everything. He had five shots, four hits, checked Zdeno Chara into the Caps bench, and made two fans’ nights.
Not bad!
You’re never going to believe this, but Alex Ovechkin scored again, you guys.
Late in the second period, Dmitry Orlov stepped up and picked off an errant Buffalo Sabres pass in the offensive zone. Nicklas Backstrom would eventually reel in the puck and find Ovechkin down the wing.
Ovi beat Carter Hutton from 30-feet way to tally his 29th goal of the season.

After scoring a hat trick against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, The Great 8 has followed that performance up with a hat trick against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Earlier this week, several analysts, including Mike Milbury, argued that Alex Ovechkin is the greatest goal-scorer of all-time. It’s hard to argue otherwise. Ovechkin, at 33-years-old, leads the league in goals again. He’s scoring at a frantic pace despite pretty much everyone on the ice knowing where he’s going to shoot: from his office in the left circle.
Friday, Ovechkin did it again, burying a one-timer past Scott Darling from The Ovi Spot. Ovechkin added another scintillating goal in the second period. The Russian machine now has 27 goals on the season. He’s on pace to score a career-high 71 goals.
Is Ovi… getting better with age?
