Alex Ovechkin now sits one shy of 50 goals after potting a pretty, throwback one-timer against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Tied entering the third period, the top line started the rush. Once in the Canes’ zone, Wilson centered the puck to Ovechkin, sitting high in the slot. Ovechkin rocketed a one-timer to beat goalie Petr Mrazek stick side.
Meanwhile, Evgeny Kuznetsov, who received a secondary assist on the goal, was up front providing the screen. It was his second of three assists on the night.
The tally tied Ovechkin with Brendan Shanahan for 13th all-time in career goals (656).
Ovechkin had gone four games since his last goal, with more than twenty fruitless shots between then and now.
Ovechkin has scored 50 goals seven times in his career. One more goal will make it eight great seasons.
