Alex Ovechkin calls out judges after Kirill Kaprizov finishes last in Breakaway Challenge: ‘I don’t know why he don’t get too many points’

The NHL’s Breakaway Challenge in the All-Star Skills Competition was fantastic… except for the judging. The nonsensical scores arguably denied the league an even bigger viral moment when Trevor Zegras scored blindfolded while doing a tribute to the cult classic movie Dodgeball and finished in THIRD PLACE. It was like Vince Carter losing the 2000 Dunk Contest.

Hometown boy Alex Pietrangelo won the event despite a meh attempt after actor and Blues fan Jon Hamm stuffed the ballot and gave the Vegas Golden Knights defenseman a score of 19; each judge was only allowed to give each player a score between 1 and 10. The Mad Men star was a judge along with Las Vegas ventriloquist Terry Fator, Hockey Hall of Famers Mark Messier and Paul Coffey, Darren Waller from the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, and NHL Youth Advisory Board member Dayton O’Donoghue.

Tuesday, Alex Ovechkin officially called them out.

Tom Wilson uses Jack Eichel Supreme 1S stick to hit over 100 MPH in Hardest Shot competition

Tom Wilson eclipsed 100 MPH in the Hardest Shot competition on Friday, but it’s how he did it that is making waves on social media.

Wilson took to the ice at the All-Star Skills Competition with his normal Bauer Supreme Ultra Sonic sticks that have an 87 flex. But for his Hardest Shot attempts, he traded his normal twigs in for ones that he randomly found at T-Mobile Arena that are relics and hard to find.

Evgeny Kuznetsov is the slowest Fastest Skater

Evgeny Kuznetsov competed in the Fastest Skater competition during the NHL’s 2022 Skills Competition, Friday.

Before the event, Kuzy tried to lower the expectations for how he might perform, joking in a Capitals-published interview that “I don’t know who put me there. That’s the toughest one probably. I got to come up with something funny right?”

Our bird boy definitely brought his chaotic energy to the event, but he did not do well overall.

NHL announces events Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson will compete in during 2022 All-Star Skills Competition

The Washington Capitals will have two representatives at this year’s 2022 All-Star Game and both players will participate in events at the 2022 All-Star Skills Competition held the night before.
