Caps at Isles pregame: Still alive, but barely breathing

It is game number five for the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders series in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Caps avoided elimination on Tuesday night after a win, but the bad news is that they’re facing elimination again! The Isles are up in the series 3-1.

Just gotta take it one game at a time. Is it possible the Caps can make a wild comeback? Yeah. Are the odds pretty slim? Yeah, but there are odds! Always need to find the silver lining.

Caps at Isles pregame: And now the end is near

The Capitals are facing the New York Islanders in Game Four of the first round in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Isles are up 3-0, so this is the final chance for the Capitals. Nothing huge to update you on about the team other than Nick Backstrom will be a game-time decision and this could potentially be the last game that Braden Holtby is in goal for the Washington Capitals. See, nothing huge to update you on, but also can someone send me some tissues?

I hope this isn’t my last pregame of the season. I hope the Capitals have some wild comeback. I think I’ll always secretly hold out a little hope (that’s why it hurts my heart very bad), but if this is the end of the road for 2020…just know that it’s been a pleasure. See you on the other side.

Caps at Isles pregame: Down, not out

The Capitals are facing off against the New York Islanders for Game Three. Currently the series sits at 0-2 with the New York Islanders on top. This is the biggest game of the year, so to balance out my huge ball of nerves, I’m going to keep positive. Nick Backstrom skated at the end of practice yesterday and Coach Reirden mentioned that they’ll see how everyone is doing this morning to decide lineups. Alex Ovechkin also wants to remind you that they know they’re not playing well and they know what they have to do. The Caps are down, but they are not out.

I might have a quick meditation before this one. Just going to simply manifest into the world that I want to watch a game where the Capitals do not lose a lead or collapse in the third period. I don’t know how meditation works.

Caps vs Isles pregame: Return of the tiger

I’m not even going to try and sugarcoat it, the Capitals looked like absolute trash in Game One. I have shifted my mentality to “things can’t be worse for Game Two…right?!” which is probably a mistake on my part, but here we are! Let’s move on, shall we?

The Capitals are facing off against the New York Islanders for Game Two and to say they need to make some changes is an understatement. Nick Backstrom will be out of the lineup due to a gross hit from Anders Lee during Game One. In better news, Lars Eller is back! Hopefully the addition of Eller, and the heightened emotions from the way the last game ended, can breathe a little bit more life into this team. It’s not like Eller hasn’t done it before.

Caps vs Isles pregame: It’s for real this time

FINALLY, WE MADE IT! This one is for real, this is a real-life playoff game. The Capitals are facing off against Barry Trotz’s New York Islanders for their first series. The big ol’ question mark for this afternoon is John Carlson, he will be a game-time decision.

All of this feels very strange. I should be getting ready to go to a watch party, I should see some people getting ready to go to the game, etc. But, I’m still excited. This NHL schedule is exhausting and fun, and the bubble seems to be working. So, here’s to an exciting and safe first round. I’m thrilled to be watching all the action with you guys, even if it’s via the internet. Rock the red, let’s go Caps.

The puck drops at 3 PM, as long as the Hurricanes and Bruins game doesn’t go on forever and push the time back like SOME teams did last night. Peter will have your recap.

Here’s the schedule for the Capitals-Islanders first-round series

After defeating the Boston Bruins 2-1 Sunday, the Washington Capitals earned the number three seed and will play the six-seeded New York Islanders in the first round of the playoffs.

Game One of the series is Wednesday at 3 PM. The first five games of the series will be aired on NBC Sports Washington.

Philadelphia Flyers and Vegas Golden Knights lock up number one seeds in East and West

After a wild Elimination Friday that saw five teams get axed from the loffs, the NHL had a quiet Saturday with only two games. Both of the matchups were important, however, as they decided the number one seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences.

The Philadelphia Flyers will be the number one seed in the East, leapfrogging from fourth to first during round-robin play. The Flyers won all three games they played, tallying victories over Boston, Washington, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights will headline the West after scoring 15 total goals in their three games of the round-robin.

Sidney Crosby gets eliminated on his birthday

You hate to see it.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been upset by the twelfth seeded Montreal Canadiens, technically the worst team in the 24-team playoff, and are eliminated from the postseason.

The elimination occurred on Sidney Crosby’s 33rd birthday.

There are six possible elimination games on TV today

Normally in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there are, at most, eight series going on at generally the same time. Today, the NHL will be airing six different possible Qualifying Round elimination games on the same day, four of which are possible upsets by lower seeds.

From 12 PM to 1:15 AM (at least), hockey will be on your TV. Here’s a preview of what’s upcoming.
