After a wild Elimination Friday that saw five teams get axed from the loffs, the NHL had a quiet Saturday with only two games. Both of the matchups were important, however, as they decided the number one seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences.
The Philadelphia Flyers will be the number one seed in the East, leapfrogging from fourth to first during round-robin play. The Flyers won all three games they played, tallying victories over Boston, Washington, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights will headline the West after scoring 15 total goals in their three games of the round-robin.
The Flyers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 to complete their sweep of the East. The Flyers got two goals from Nicolas Aube-Kubel and another from Joel Farabee. Tyler Pitlick added an empty-netter to seal the deal.
The Lightning will be the second seed in the East while the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals will fight for the third and fourth seeds Sunday.
The Golden Knights beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime after Alex Tuch (yeah, that Alex Tuch) scored in the extra frame.
The Avalanche will be the second seed in the West while the Blues and Stars battle for third and fourth. The Golden Knights will look to return to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since losing to the Capitals in 2018.
