Washington Capitals 2019 first-round pick Connor McMichael has scored Canada’s first goal of the World Junior Championship tournament. Down 2-0 to Team USA entering the second period, Canada finally hit the back of the net as Kings prospect Akil Thomas fed McMichael at the goal mouth.

Washington Capitals 2018 first-round pick, Alex Alexeyev, became the only prospect in the organization to medal at the 2019 World Junior Championship, Saturday.
Alexeyev’s Team Russia defeated Switzerland 5-2, earning bronze in the annual tourney showcasing the world’s best under-20-year-old players. Later that night, Finland defeated the United States 3-2 to win gold.
The Swiss Junior team, featuring their own version of the birdwalk celly, is streaking into the semifinals against the Fins.
One name missing from the Swiss lineup is Caps prospect Tobias Geisser, who has been sent back to the AHL.

Sunday evening, Capitals 2018 first-round pick Alex Alexeyev scored his first goal of the World Junior Championships.
Wednesday night in a quarterfinal matchup against Slovakia and fellow Caps draft pick Martin Fehervary, Alexeyev notched his second goal of the tournament to put the Russians up 3-0.

In the same game where Caps’ prospect Alex Alexeyev scored his first goal of the World Junior Championships, one Swiss player is taking notes on another Caps player’s goal celebrations.
Swiss forward Yannick Bruschweiler, who is draft eligible in 2019, toe-dragged the puck around Danil Zhuravylov then rifled a shot past Danil Tarasov.
Bruschweiler immediately flapped his arms, copying Evgeny Kuznetsov’s bird walk celebration.

In a back-and-forth game featuring three penalty shots between the Russians and the Swiss, Capitals first-round pick Alex Alexeyev made his mark in the third period.
The Russian defenseman received a pass on the right side of the ice on the power play and slung a shot through traffic to beat Swiss goalie Akira Schmid on the far post.
It’s his first goal of the 2019 World Junior Championships.

Capitals prospect, defenseman, Russian U20 National Team-member. We can now add one more title to the resume of Alex Alekseyev: diplomat.
There is little love lost between the Russian and Czech national teams, a history going back well before the fall of the Iron Curtain. At the December 28 U20 match between the sides, tempers flared once again, with two players nearly coming to blows.
A glare from Alekseyev, however, was enough to calm things down. Video of the incident and game highlights follow below the jump.
