After Caps Captain Alex Ovechkin surpassed Sergei Fedorov as the highest-scoring Russian player in NHL history, NHL.com/ru, the NHL’s Russian site, posted an exclusive interview with the Great Eight covering his development as a player, his rivalry with Sidney Crosby, the 2018 Stanley Cup win, and the significance of Ovi’s latest achievement.

Alex Ovechkin and Dmitry Orlov attend concert by famous Russian singer, Aleksandr Rozenbaum

Wednesday night, just before returning to practice from their All Star-slash-bye-week break, Caps stars Alex Ovechkin and Dmitry Orlov, together with their wives, Nastya and Varvara, and Tatyana Ovechkina attended a concert at The George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium by famed Russian singer-songwriter Aleksandr Rozenbaum.

Rozenbaum was a longtime friend of Nastya’s mother, Russian actress and director Vera Glagoleva, who died in August 2017 at the age of 61.

Of course, the whole affair was well-documented on Instagram.

KHL team wants to buy off Artemi Panarin with lifetime supply of free gasoline

When he’s not, ugh, scoring game-winning overtime goals, Artemi Panarin of the Columbus Blue Jackets is a highly sought-after commodity on the impending free-agent market. Panarin’s two-year, $6 million contract ends after this season.

The Russian-born forward is a popular prospect not just among NHL teams seeking to add skill and offense; several teams from his native land are interested as well. However, perhaps no team has demonstrated its interest quite as bluntly, or humorously, as the KHL’s Avangard Omsk.

Caps prospect Alex Alekseyev keeps peace during near-fight in handshake line at WJC

Capitals prospect, defenseman, Russian U20 National Team-member. We can now add one more title to the resume of Alex Alekseyev: diplomat.

There is little love lost between the Russian and Czech national teams, a history going back well before the fall of the Iron Curtain. At the December 28 U20 match between the sides, tempers flared once again, with two players nearly coming to blows.

A glare from Alekseyev, however, was enough to calm things down. Video of the incident and game highlights follow below the jump.

Ilya Samsonov and Sergei Shumakov visited New York City together on their off day

Fellow Russian Caps prospects Ilya Samsonov and Sergei Shumakov took advantage of the Bears being off this week until Saturday by taking a quick jaunt to New York City.

The two are housemates in Hershey and Samsonov recently spoke with The Athletic’s Chris Kuc about some of the learning the pair have had to do off the ice, including cooking for themselves and washing clothes. With Shumakov sidelined for several weeks with an injury to his hand, that has left most of the cooking duties to Samsonov, who admitted the pair have been mostly surviving off store-bought Russian dumplings.

Luckily, the Russian teammates feasted on something better than Samsonov’s dumplings in NYC. The pair posted several highlights from their trip on their respective Instagram feeds.

New video details Dmitry Orlov’s struggle to get the Cup to Novokuznetsk, and the payoff that made it all worthwhile

As you may recall, Dmitry Orlov nearly missed his day with the Stanley Cup this summer after the famous trophy missed its flight from Moscow to Novokuznetsk. Today on Instagram, Orlov shared a video produced by Russian TV host Stanislav Yarushin, which gave an overview of that day’s events.

The video features an interview with the Caps defenseman, in which Orlov explains how the disaster was narrowly averted, and how it felt getting up close and personal with the Cup and over 6,000 of his closest friends.

Alex Ovechkin posed in scrubs after the birth of his son

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has been relatively quite on social media since the birth of his son, Sergei, on August 18.

Tuesday, however, he shared a picture of himself in scrubs, along with his sister-in-law and Nastya’s OB-GYN, Maryana Bucucea.

Dmitry Orlov thanks hometown fans in Novokuznetsk via Instagram Post

Though Dmitry Orlov’s day with the Stanley Cup got off to a rocky start–a small matter of the trophy winding up in the wrong Russian city–things wrapped up nicely.

Orlov posted a heartfelt thank-you on his Instagram feed to the many fans from his home town of Novokuznetsk (which is here, and not here, by the way).

Alex Ovechkin and Andre Burakovsky aren’t the only Caps getting serious about their offseason training.

Newly drafted defensive prospect, Alexander Alexeyev, recently hit the beach with a drag chute to get some reps in before his season starts.

Alex Ovechkin will take the Stanley Cup to Moscow in July

Much has been written lately about the escapades of a certain Alex Ovechkin, reportedly a hockey player of some repute, with Lord Stanley’s Cup.

But apparently your favorite Captain and mine has even grander plans in store for his favorite new piece of shiny hardware. Come July, Ovi and the Cup will be Moscow-bound.
