The Washington Capitals gave up five goals in their loss to the New York Islanders on Monday, but there was one positive that came out of the game.
TJ Oshie hit paydirt for the 21st time this season, completing a challenge that was made by his youngest daughter Leni hours before puck drop.
“I will get you a… donut!” Leni said.
“A donut? What do I have to do to get a donut?” Oshie said back.
“Score GOAL!”
On Saturday Monday night the Washington Capitals, wearing their thirds, just straight-up got boomed by the Philadelphia Flyers New York Islanders.
Anthony Beauvillier scored back-to-back goals in the first period — one a perfect tic-tac-toe rush goal, the other a desperate scramble in front of Ilya Samsonov. John Carlson fought back with a slapshot through traffic (that nearly hit Alex Ovechkin), but that rascal Devon Teows got a goal during four-on-four play to give the Isles a solid lead through one period.
The second period was bad also. Leo Komarov scored five-hole, then Jordan Eberle went the distance to chase Samsonov from the net. To save face, Lars Eller went buckwild in the crease and the power play scored on an Oshie Shot from the Ovi Spot.
The Caps looked a bit better in the third period, but a comeback was beyond reach.

Nicklas Backstrom sent a pass to the point and John Carlson fired a quick shot on net. After a carom in front, Alex Ovechkin raised his arm as if he scored.
It was Ovechkin’s historic 699th career goal.
Except, no. No, it wasn’t.
Adding injury to insult, Evgeny Kuznetsov has left Monday’s game against the New York Islanders in the second period.

It’s Monday and the New York Islanders are in town to kick off the week. Lines have been shifted a smidge for the Capitals, including the healthy scratch of Radko Gudas. Hopefully shifting some lines will help the team click a little better. Oh, and hopefully they never have another game like the last one, but I like to think if we never talk about it again it basically didn’t happen.
7 PM is puck drop and Peter has your recap. Do some voodoo to get Alex Ovechkin to 700 goals tonight.
