TJ Oshie makes wager with former St. Louis Blues teammate Barret Jackman over NLCS outcome

After a nailbiting Game Five of the NLDS, the Washington Nationals won a playoff series for the first time in franchise history and advanced to the NLCS. But there’s more riding on the outcome of the series between the Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals than advancing to the World Series.

Retired former Blues defenseman Barret Jackman reached out to TJ Oshie via Twitter to propose a wager over who the winner would be.

Ovi Jr’s best friend appears to be Alex Ovechkin

With Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals on a road trip to Nashville to take on the Predators on Thursday, Sergei got creative to ensure his “baba” could still join him on his romping adventures.

Clutching a cardboard cutout of Ovi’s head, Sergei ambled around his house with mom Nastya Ovechkina following close behind to capture all of the adorable action.

Tom Wilson partners with Indochino to help open new showroom in Georgetown

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson rocked a slick new checker suit at the Caps red carpet event on Saturday.

On Wednesday, he donned a similarly styled suit made by Canadian menswear company Indochino, who Wilson has partnered with to help open their 50th showroom in Georgetown.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have so many injuries they couldn’t ice a fourth line during practice

Injuries have hit the Capitals’ Metro division rival Pittsburgh Penguins hard to start the season. So hard, in fact, that they were unable to ice a fourth line at practice on Tuesday.

You hate to see it.

Evgeni Malkin, Nick Bjugstad, and Bryan Rust are the big-name players all out on long-term injured reserve, with Justin Almeida and Zach Trotman also out.

John Tavares named captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been without a captain since Dion Phaneuf was traded to the Senators in 2016. Until now. As the Leafs opened their season at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday, John Tavares was announced as the 25th captain in franchise history.

Tavares’ appointment as captain was announced to expectant fans as the lineup for the Leafs was introduced on the ice.

Marcus Johansson named alternate captain ahead of Buffalo Sabres season opener

Former Washington Capital Marcus Johansson joined the Buffalo Sabres on a two-year, $9 million contract over the summer.

Ahead of the Sabres’ season opener against Pittsburgh on Thursday, the team named Johnasson as one of their alternate captains.

Michal Kempny cleared for contact, likely to return next week

After being placed on the ‘injured non roster’ list on Tuesday, Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny has finally been cleared for contact.

Kempny was skating on Wednesday morning, wearing a dark blue contact jersey, according to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell.

Ahead of the Capitals season opener in St. Louis on Wednesday, the Washington Capitals held practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex providing a clearer picture of what lines will be opening night against the St. Louis Blues.

With Evgeny Kuznetsov’s spot up for grabs, while he is out on a three-game suspension, Christian Djoos being waived and loaned to Hershey, and Michal Kempny placed on the injured non roster list, there were some surprises when the lines hit the ice.

Gender reveal: Nick and Jenner Jensen are having a baby boy

In late September, Nick and Jenner Jensen announced on Instagram that they were expecting their first child. On Monday, Jenner posted a second post to reveal that their baby, due in March 2020, is a boy!

Michal Kempny passes conditioning test but ‘highly likely’ to miss opening night

Michal Kempny’s recovery from a hamstring injury last season made another positive step on Saturday. According to Tom Gulitti, Kempny took part in a conditioning skating test, which he passed.

Capitals head coach Todd Reirden later spoke to the media in a press conference, where he ruled Kempny out of the Caps’ final preseason game in Carolina on Sunday. Reirden also said Kempny is “highly likely” to sit out the Capitals’ season opener October 2 against the St. Louis Blues.
