EA Sports is dropping the latest installment of its annual hockey video game series, NHL 27, on September 11. In the run-up to the release, the company has unveiled the ratings for the game’s top 300 players, including 12 members of the Washington Capitals.

Alex Ovechkin, the team’s captain, is regularly the highest-rated member of the roster, but that won’t be the case this season. In fact, Ovechkin falls behind two of his teammates this year, receiving a rating below 90 overall for just the second time in his illustrious career.

Ovechkin, rated 89, is listed third on the team behind goaltender Logan Thompson (90) and defenseman Jakob Chychrun (89).

Thompson is the only Capitals player ranked in the top 10 at his position, as he is the fifth-best goaltender in the game. Washington’s number-one backstop trails behind Andrei Vasilevskiy (94), Ilya Sorokin (93), Connor Hellebuyck (92), and Igor Shesterkin (91).

Outside of Thompson, Chychrun is the 12th-best left defenseman in the game, while Ovechkin is the 15th-best left winger.

The top player in the game, getting the only 99-overall rating, is Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid.

No other player even received a 98 overall rating, as McDavid is followed by fellow recent Hart Trophy finalists, Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov, both rated 97 overall.

Three defensemen also crack the top 10 in ratings: Cale Makar (95), Zach Werenski (95), and Quinn Hughes (95).

Earlier this summer, EA Sports revealed that San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, who holds a 95 overall rating, will be the cover athlete for this year’s game.

Celebrini, who just turned 20 in June, will be the youngest-ever player to receive the honor.
