The Washington Capitals announced that they have recalled veteran forward Mike Sgarbossa from the AHL’s Hershey Bears on Monday morning. This is the third time that Hershey’s leading scorer has been up with the big club this season.
Sgarbossa has 43 points (7g, 36a) in 44 games for the AHL-leading Bears. He has gotten into 17 NHL games with the Capitals since the 2019-20 season but has yet to play in one this season.

The 2023 Calder Cup champ signed a two-year extension with the Capitals this past May. Sgarbossa last played for the Bears on Saturday, notching an assist in Hershey’s 4-0 win over the Bridgeport Islanders. He leads the AHL in assists with 36.
Before Sgarbossa’s recall, the Capitals were already carrying a full complement of 23 players on their roster. That means a corresponding move to make room for Sgarbossa’s promotion is likely coming.
