The Washington Capitals lost to the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 in their third game of the preseason. It was the first road preseason game for the Caps.
Aliaksei Protas opened the scoring, jamming home a shot from the slot into the upper portion of the cage. Protas was one of the more effective Caps skaters in the game.
The Flyers would get three in a row after that. A no-doubter from Claude Giroux on the power play, a scramble mess in front converted by Cam Atkinson, and a breakaway from Scott Laughton.
The Capitals and Flyers held a shootout after the game, which the Caps won via Ilya Samsonov saves and a Joe Snively winner. With the loss, the Capitals fell to 0-3 in the preseason.

Whatever this was happened. The refs were horrendous in the third period.
Provorov goes after Hathaway, Brassard breaks them up and all hell nearly breaks loose. Hockey!!! pic.twitter.com/rvOlo2Hhih

The most nonchalant shootout of all time.
The Flyers and Capitals went 9 rounds in the practice shootout before Joe Snively scored the deciding goal for Washington.
