The Washington Capitals gave up five goals in their loss to the New York Islanders on Monday, but there was one positive that came out of the game.
TJ Oshie hit paydirt for the 21st time this season, completing a challenge that was made by his youngest daughter Leni hours before puck drop.
“I will get you a… donut!” Leni said.
“A donut? What do I have to do to get a donut?” Oshie said back.
“Score GOAL!”

The Everett, Washington-native did his daughter proud by scoring on an Oshie shot from the Ovi spot during a second-period powerplay. The tally pulled the Capitals within two goals.
After the donut goal, Oshie’s wife Lauren posted the following video on her Instagram Story as well as several other excited donut salutes from fans.
After the game, Oshie didn’t comment on his winnings instead focusing on the Capitals’ poor play of late.
“It’s just mental mistakes,” he said. “Not being simple or not making plays that we can read off easily. They’re really happening all over the ice which is very uncharacteristic for us. We’ll get some video and try to clean up – maybe the forwards can get back for our D better, maybe our D can make different reads. We’re kinda hanging our goalies out to dry and they’ve been really good for us. That’s a bad feeling as a player when you got goaltenders constantly, Sammy this year and Holts ever since I’ve been here for sure, bailing us out. It’s a good growing stage for us right now. We’ll go back to the rink tomorrow. Work hard, have fun, and try to get better.”
We will now eagerly await Leni to fulfil the bet.
