Nathan Walker will play against Capitals in preseason game despite being put on waivers three days ago

Three days ago, the St. Louis Blues put Nathan Walker on waivers.

But Friday, during the Blues’ morning skate, Walker was on the ice at Enterprise Center, still totally a member of the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues play the Washington Capitals tonight in preseason action.

Walker lined up on the Blues’ third line along with Zach Sanford. It appears Nate will indeed play against his former team.

So what happened?

According to the voice of the Hershey Bears, Zack Fisch, the Blues passed Nathan through waivers but ultimately did not assign Walker to the AHL. That means he can stay with the team. The Blues likely passed Walker through waivers before the very end of Training Camp to decrease the likelihood of another team claiming him.

Walker can still be assigned to the AHL San Antonio Rampage at any time. The only way he’d have to pass through waivers again though is if he plays 10 or more NHL games with the Blues to start the season.

Additional notes: The Capitals flew to St. Louis immediately after their 6-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday.

Here’s the lineup the Capitals will sport tonight against the Blues.

Nope. Tom Wilson is definitely not playing against the St. Louis Blues and this report was totally true.
