The Washington Capitals look like they’ll be getting Justin Sourdif back in their lineup on Monday.

Sourdif was activated from injured reserve just hours ahead of the team’s road matchup with the Colorado Avalanche. The Capitals had an open roster spot after returning forward Brett Leason to the AHL’s Hershey Bears on Sunday morning.

Sourdif missed his third straight game due to an upper-body injury against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night. He was placed on IR last week, retroactive to January 12, which allowed the Capitals to recall Ivan Miroshnichenko from the Bears.

The rookie forward suffered his injury early in the second period of the Capitals’ 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on January 11, taking a puck to the face on a power play. Sourdif’s face was already sore coming into the game after he was bloodied by a collision in practice with Connor McMichael just days prior.

Sourdif has been practicing with his teammates for a few days now, but was only upgraded to taking contact at the team’s morning skate ahead of their game against Florida. The 23-year-old centerman has 19 points (9g, 10a) in 45 games for the Capitals this season.

While Sourdif is no longer listed on injured reserve, the same cannot be said for veteran winger Tom Wilson. The lack of news on Wilson likely means he will miss an eighth straight game with his lower-body injury against the Avalanche.
