Cole Hutson was named the Hockey East Defender of the Month after recording 8 points (4g, 4a) in seven November games for the Boston University Terriers.
Hutson’s biggest single-game offensive output came on the first day of the month, when he recorded three assists against the University of Maine. He is the highest-scoring defenseman in the nation with 18 points (7g, 11a) in 15 games this season.
The 19-year-old blueliner also ranks third among all NCAA players in shots on goal (67), time on ice per game (26:28), and game-winning goals (3).
The Hockey East recognition is already Hutson’s second of the year after he won the honors in October, recording 10 points (3g, 7a) in eight games.
Hutson, the 43rd overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals, took home the Tim Taylor Award last spring, presented to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey freshman. He notched 48 points (14g, 34a) in 39 games during his first year of college hockey.
The Missouri-born rearguard was recently named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the 2026 World Junior Championship. Hutson became the first defenseman to ever lead the tournament in scoring, recording 11 points (3g, 8a) in seven games for the gold-medal-winning USA team.
Hutson will be back in action for the Terriers later this week when they match up with the Vermont Catamounts on Friday and Saturday. Hutson had six points (1g, 5a) in three games against Vermont last year.
