Sunday night’s game between the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden featured a visit from a couple of Bronx Bombers.
Four days after the New York Yankees were eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS, star sluggers Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo were in the building to take in the battle between Metropolitan Division foes.
Judge just wrapped up his seventh MLB All-Star campaign and fourth career MLB season with at least 50 home runs. Rizzo, who last played for the Yankees in 2024, announced his retirement from baseball last month.
Neither player wore a jersey or any Rangers colors to the game. They were introduced to applause and cheers from fans on MSG’s jumbotron.
The Yankees won just one game against the Blue Jays in the ALDS after they had eliminated their bitter rivals, the Boston Red Sox, in three games during the American League Wild Card series. Judge was red hot in both playoff series, hitting a combined .500 (13 for 26) with two doubles, seven RBIs, one home run, four walks, and just five strikeouts.
“Unfortunately” for the Yankees, the rest of the roster struggled, especially their pitching staff. The Blue Jays recorded 50 hits and scored 34 runs in the four games.
