A fun, new food option near Capital One Arena will begin taking orders soon.

A Raising Cane’s in Chinatown will open its doors on Tuesday, October 21. The location is at 722 7th St. NW, steps from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro stop and a block down from where the Washington Capitals and Wizards play their home games. The Capitals play the Seattle Kraken that night.

Raising Cane’s menu features four box combo options and a kid’s meal. The restaurant serves fried chicken fingers, Texas toast, crispy crinkle-cut fries, and coleslaw. The Louisiana-based eatery also came up with its own special Cane’s sauce.

The popular fast-food chain — beloved by musician Post Malone — is rapidly expanding across the United States, growing to more than 900 Restaurants across 40-plus states. There are plans to open about 100 new restaurants this year.

The new Raising Cane’s comes after Ted Leonsis’s Monumental Sports & Entertainment signed a deal with DC to keep its teams in the city through 2050. Capital One Arena is currently finishing its first set of renovations as it tries to reimagine the building for the future. Other dining options either already open or soon to be open nearby include Dos Toros, Chick-fil-A, 90 Second Pizza, HipCityVeg, Chipotle, Chopt, Fuddruckers, Smashburger, Potbelly, &pizza, and Taco Bell Cantina.

Plans for a new Raising Cane’s in Chinatown were originally reported in the summer of 2024, with the restaurant scheduled to open in the fall of 2025. It will mark the second Raising Cane’s in the district, joining a location at Union Station. Another Raising Cane’s is set to open on M Street in Georgetown in the future.

The Chinatown Cane’s is looking to hire over 100 workers by its grand opening and is taking applications for cashiers, fry cooks, and customer service associates. People interested in applying can do so online (jobs.raisingcanes.com) or at a Raising Cane’s hiring center located inside the Hampton Inn Washington-Downtown-Convention Center at 901 6th St. NW. Wages start at $18 per hour and include benefits.

Raising Cane’s was founded on August 28, 1996, when owner and founder Todd Graves opened the first Restaurant across from the North Gates at LSU in Baton Rouge, bringing his Chicken Finger dream to life. The road there wasn’t easy — Graves’ college business plan earned the lowest grade in class and banks repeatedly turned him down. Determined, he worked 90-hour weeks as a boilermaker in California, then spent a season commercial fishing in Alaska to fund his vision. Originally planning to call it “Sockeye’s,” Graves instead named the Restaurant after his beloved Labrador, Raising Cane. On opening night, he waved Customers in from the street, keeping the doors open until 3:30 a.m. Today, nearly 30 years later, Raising Cane’s is still serving the same menu that made the Brand famous and has grown its presence to more than 900 Restaurants across 40+ states with plans to open about 100 new Restaurants this year.
