The Chesapeake Baysox hosted Washington Capitals Night at Prince George’s Stadium on Friday night and they had a special guest in attendance.

Former Capitals defenseman Mike Green, a two-time Norris Trophy finalist, was on hand to sign autographs and take photos with fans. The former Young Gun, who once scored 31 goals and tallied 73 points during the 2008-09 season, also threw out the ceremonial first pitch… which was a tad high!

Green’s heave was caught by a leaping Baysox catcher. The two-time NHL All-Star, who retired in 2020, could be seen smiling and seemed relieved the ball didn’t hit the backstop as Capitals mascot Slapshot pumped his fists.

Afterward, Green, still beloved by fans of the Rock the Red era, met with Capitals faithful signing items and inking up postcards.

Green played 15 seasons in the NHL, recording 501 points (150g, 351a) in 880 games with the Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and Edmonton Oilers. The Calgary native’s 113 goals with the Caps is tied for the fourth-most by a defenseman in franchise history while his 360 points rank sixth.

The Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, went on to defeat the Harrisburg Senators, the affiliate of the Washington Nationals, 5-1. The victory was the Baysox fourth straight.
