Alex Ovechkin scored his 880th, 881st, and 882nd career goals in the Washington Capitals’ 7-3 stomping of the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, and naturally, his hat trick was praised in the locker room.
During Spencer Carbery’s post-game speech, the Capitals’ second year head coach complimented the team as a whole for their mentality, Charlie Lindgren for some key saves, and their fearless on-ice leader “O.”

Spencer Carbery’s speech
Spencer Carbery: …What a f***ing incredible performance by this team. First shift. You can feel it. You can feel how engaged and how mentally tough we were going to be today.
Two things to highlight – the game is 2-1. They get a little bit of a break on that power play. Chuckie makes a huge f***ing save.
(Locker room claps for Charlie Lindgren)
Spencer Carbery: Those are turning point saves that you need in certain situations. That’s a huge f***ing save.
And obviously this guy gets it f***ing rolling tonight and was hot as a pistol. Ovi.
(Carbery goes over to fist-bump Ovechkin at his locker stall])
Presentation of the gold chain as player of the game
Martin Fehervary: Good job, boys. But I think it’s easy.
(Fehervary hands Ovechkin the chain and they hug.)
Alex Ovechkin: Enjoy day off, boys.
(Players cheer.)
For the Capitals this season, this may be one of their more subdued celebrations considering the enormity of the victory and just how much closer their captain is to Wayne Gretzky’s goals record. But after two early games this weekend, there probably was not much energy left.
