Ryan Leonard got on the board for no. 1 ranked Boston College on Friday night, but his goal was not enough to prevent a second consecutive loss for the Eagles. After falling in the Beanpot final to rival Boston University on Monday, the Eagles lost 3-2 to another in-state Hockey East rival, no. 16 ranked Massachusetts.
Leonard’s marker, his NCAA-leading 24th of the season, came with 26.5 left in regulation with BC down 3-1 and their netminder pulled. The 20-year-old winger fired seven shots in the loss, blocked two shots, and took a two-minute minor penalty for holding.
The Eagles have been without top-six forward Oskar Jellvik for the past three games due to injury. Jellvik’s absence has thrown the team’s forward lines out of sync, and BC has just three goals in their two-game skid.
During his recent six-game goal-scoring streak, Leonard had been lining up with Jellvik and Andre Gasseau. He played with Gasseau and Gabe Perreault on Friday.

The two mid-February losses are the first back-to-back defeats of the season for the Eagles. They’ll have a chance to end their losing streak at just two in a rematch against Massachusetts on Saturday night.
