The NHLPA Rookie Showcase is heading to Chicago for the first time.
The 16th edition of the event will run from July 28 through 30 at the Blackhawks Ice Center Presented by Fifth Third Bank. There, many of the league’s top rookies and prospects will put on their official team jerseys for photo and video shoots used in upcoming Upper Deck trading cards, memorabilia, and promotional materials.
The showcase also introduces young players to the business side of professional hockey, including how their name, image, and likeness can help them connect with fans and collectors.
This year’s move to Illinois marks a change in both location and timing. The showcase was previously held at MedStar Capitals Iceplex five times — in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 — and typically took place in September, shortly before NHL training camps opened.
Before moving to the Capitals’ practice facility in Arlington, the annual event was hosted in Toronto.
Players who will be participating at the 2026 NHLPA Rookie Showcase will be announced in the coming days, with 2026 first overall pick Gavin McKenna likely to headline. Candidates from the Capitals who could get invites include Cole Hutson and Ilya Protas.
