Ryan Leonard scores in sixth straight game, records three points in blowout Beanpot win against Northeastern

Ryan Leonard continued his hot streak for the no. 1 ranked Boston College Eagles. The 20-year-old winger scored in his sixth straight game and recorded his fourth straight multi-point night in BC’s blowout 8-2 Beanpot semifinal matchup with the unranked Northeastern Huskies. He has 10 goals in his last six games.

Leonard’s first of three points (1g, 2a) in the game wasn’t a goal. Instead, the Washington Capitals prospect played set-up man for Lukas Gustafsson, feeding him an easy backdoor goal just 35 seconds into the second period.

Leonard picked up his second assist on Andre Gasseau’s goal to put the Eagles up 6-1 with 6:24 remaining in regulation. He lit the lamp 2:31 later, finding room on the short side of Huskies goaltender Cameron Whitehead. The goal was Leonard’s NCAA-leading 23rd of the season.

The Eagles have won eight games in a row, and Leonard’s hot streak has played a big part in that consistent success. The 2023 first-round draft pick is finding success skating with Gasseau and Oskar Jellvik, away from his normal World Juniors linemates James Hagens and Gabe Perreault.

Leonard now has 33 points (23g, 10a) in 25 games this season and is two goals ahead of Michigan State’s Isaac Howard for the NCAA lead despite playing three fewer games. He is on pace for 38 goals if Boston College makes a repeat appearance in the National Championship this year. BC’s all-time record for goals in a single season is 38, reached by David Emma (1989-90), Scott Harlow (1985-86), and Cutter Gauthier (2023-24).

Boston College will play New Hampshire on Friday night before meeting Boston University, their bitter rivals, in the Beanpot final on February 10. The Eagles took two games from the Terriers by a combined 8-2 score in late January.
