Though the Washington Capitals have struggled to find their game recently, their record doesn’t show it. Three weeks into the new year, the Capitals have yet to lose in regulation — last doing so against the Detroit Red Wings on December 29 — to record a 12-game point streak.

The Caps now have the longest point streak in the NHL this season, going 9-0-3 in that span, and are tied for the seventh-longest streak in franchise history.

The New York Rangers are the only other team to record a point in 10 or more consecutive games this season, putting up a record of 7-0-3 since January 5. Before going on their current run, Washington nearly reached the 10-game threshold in December, putting up a 9-game streak between November 25 and December 14 before falling 3-1 to the Dallas Stars.

Washington is the only team this year to record multiple point streaks of 8+ games.

Over the 12-game streak, three Capitals players have points in the double digits: Pierre-Luc Dubois has 11 points (4g, 7a), while both Tom Wilson and Aliaksei Protas have 10 (6g, 4a each). Washington’s goaltending has also been magnificent in recent games. Logan Thompson came up big after Charlie Lindgren sustained an upper-body injury, putting up back-to-back shutouts to earn First Star of the Week, When Lindgren returned to the net Thursday, he put up a shutout of his own against the Seattle Kraken.

The Caps are also on a six-game win streak — the club’s longest since they won seven in a row in March of 2021. They now hold an overall record of 33-10-5 this season lead the NHL standings.

Asked last week about the team’s chart-topping season, head coach Spencer Carbery couldn’t help but grin.

“I don’t know how to answer that,” he said then, laughing. “We feel good. I think we’re happy and the guys should be real proud of where we’re at thus far in the year.”

The Capitals will have a chance to lengthen their point streak Saturday night when they face the Vancouver Canucks at 10 pm Eastern.
