Not only did the Washington Capitals shut out the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 on Tuesday, but the organization held Capitals Canine Night, bringing together some of the cutest puppies, important dog organizations, and one sassy cat (hi, Arthur) for a howling good time at Capital One Arena.

The tone was set in the morning when the team invited social media star Hammy the Talking Corgi to hold a press conference at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. While many questions were asked and absolutely none of them answered, many pictures were taken promoting the game.

Capitals players arrived at Capital One Arena in the evening and were ushered to the locker room by adorable, adoptable puppies from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. Their names were as followed: Chip, Garlic, Gnocchi, Hash Brown, Roasted, Russian Blue, and Steamed. Sorry, that seemed like an important detail to share.

“We got Hash Brown here,” Martin Fehervary said. “He’s chilling right now. Pretty comfortable, I would say. Hopefully, he enjoying it.”

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin got special treatment as he was paired with Hammy and fellow viral doggo Maxine the Fluffy Corgi. Clearly, they are now best friends fur-ever.

Though, Maxine, like the true doggy diva that she is, rocked sunglasses and rested her chonky chest on Ovechkin in a dog backpack carrier.

Always gotta steal the spotlight and make things about you, Maxine. I see how it is.

That wasn’t the only doggone good moment featuring puppers. During warmups, the Capitals put up giant cardboard cutouts of each player’s dog (shoutout to Dwight) at their end of the rink to make them feel more at home.

During the national anthem and hero’s welcome, service dogs and their veterans were introduced to the crowd, including former Capitals dog Biscuit, whom we all miss so dearly.

Then, Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren, like one sick puppy, tried to test journalists’ ethics by bringing dogs into the press box, likely in a craven attempt to get the team more positive pixels.

It appears he succeeded!

All in all, it was a good night. And I mean, how could it not be? Puppies and hockey are always a win. Howl you doin’?
