The Washington Capitals made a big move and acquired Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday in exchange for Connor McMichael, prospect Milton Gastrin, and the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Kyrou has chosen to wear jersey number 25 when he hits the ice with his new team in the fall.
Kyrou has worn number 25 with the Blues for the past six seasons, after initially wearing number 33 in his first two years with the club. He has also sported jersey number 29 during his time with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage. He shared in 2018 that he used to wear 55 because of his birthday, May 5 (5/5), before switching to 25 in juniors.
He will become the 29th player in Capitals history to wear jersey number 25. Most recently, Ethan Bear donned 25, preceded by Dylan McIlrath, who flipped the digits and now wears 52.
Outside of those two more recent Caps, Devante Smith-Pelly (2018-19), Jason Chimera (2010-16), Viktor Kozlov (2008-09), Matt Pettinger (2008), David Steckel (2007), Andrew Cassels (2006), Mike Grier (2003-04), Terry Yake (2001), and Barrie Moore (2000) have worn number 25 for the team in the 21st-century.
