Cam Allen is headed to the London Knights after a massive trade with the Guelph Storm on Tuesday.
Allen, a fifth-round pick of the Capitals in the 2023 NHL Draft, was dealt to the Dale Hunter-coached club in exchange for defenseman Noah Jenken and seven OHL draft picks, including a pair of second-round picks, a pair of third-round picks, a pair of fourth-round picks, and a fifth-round selection.
The 19-year-old defender had been Guelph’s top scorer this season, posting 25 points (7g, 18a) in 27 games. The Toronto native was recently called into Team Canada’s 2025 World Junior selection camp but was ultimately cut from the final roster alongside fellow Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall.

This season is Allen’s first full campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery at the start of last year.
“Cam is a high-end defenseman in our league,” Knights general manager Mark Hunter said in a statement. “He’s played in the OHL for a long time and can bring more veteran presence to our back end. He’s a mobile, two-way player and we’re thrilled to have Cam be a London Knight.”
London is primed to make a run at the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions this season and the Memorial Cup as overall CHL champions. The Knights currently hold the top record in the OHL, 25-6-0, three points ahead of the Windsor Spitfires. They have not won the Memorial Cup since 2016, when they were led by current NHL stars Mitch Marner and Matthew Tkachuk.
Under Dale Hunter’s guidance, the Knights have won 13 Midwest Division titles, four OHL championships, and two Memorial Cups. Hunter first became head coach of the club ahead of the 2001-02 season after he, his brother Mark, and Basil McRae (Dale’s former Quebec Nordiques teammate) bought the team.
The former Capitals center has helped develop some of today’s top NHL stars, including Marner, Tkachuk, Patrick Kane, John Carlson, Nazem Kadri, John Tavares, Bo Horvat, Robert Thomas, Evan Bouchard, and Connor McMichael.
The trade comes as Guelph has struggled mightily this season, posting a 9-18-3 record through 30 games. They are just three points ahead of the last-place Peterborough Petes.
“This was a very difficult decision for our organization,” added Storm general manager George Burnett. “Cam has been a tremendous player, leader, and community ambassador for the Storm over the last four years and we hope that the relationship between Cam, his family, and the Storm continues in the future.”
