Tunnel shenanigans

1st Period

The puck is dropped.

🚨 1-0 Buffalo Sabres. BUF Goal: Jason Zucker (8). Assists: J. Greenway (4), R. McLeod (9). Time: 01:36.

A shot redirects off Zucker in front of the net and squeaks through. The good news is, the Capitals are 10-3-1 when giving up the first goal.

Brandon Duhaime draws a penalty on a semi-breakaway after he burns Owen Power down the right wing. The Capitals’ first power play will come at the 16:20 mark.

🚨 1-1 tie. WSH PPG: Tom Wilson (12). Assists: J. Carlson (18), C. McMichael (12). Time: 17:09.

Tom Wilson redirects a John Carlson puck into the net from the bumper spot.

At intermission: The game is tied 1-1. The Capitals are outshooting Buffalo 12 to 6 but the Sabres are out-attempting them at five-on-five 22 to 19.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

PLD draws a tripping penalty on Zach Benson at 4:06.

🚨 2-1 Washington Capitals. WSH PPG: Tom Wilson (13). Assists: J. Chychrun (11). Time: 05:11.

Tom Wilson scores his second PPG of the game, knocking a rebound in from point-blank range. Chychrun made the play happen, working hard to the center of the ice and getting a puck on net.

🥊 Martin Fehervary vs Dylan Cozens. The two combatants dropped the gloves just outside of Buffalo’s net. Ryan Johnson appeared to be holding Fehervary as Cozens threw the first punch which is trash.

🚨 2-2 tie. BUF Goal: Jiri Kulich (4). Assists: B. Byram (13), T. Thompson (8). Time: 07:24.

Duhaime in the box for boarding Beck Malenstyn, though Mal but himself in a tough position when he turned there. Buffalo’s power play comes at the 11:55 mark.

Rasmus Sandin is being helped off the ice after Jordan Greenway awkwardly fell on his right knee in the corner during a puck battle.

Rasmus Sandin leaves game briefly after Jordan Greenway awkwardly falls on his right leg

Bowen Byram to the box for interference against Lars Eller at 13:11.

Zach Benson nearly scores from his knees on a semi-breakway shorthanded. That was nuts.

At intermission: The game is tied 2-2. The Capitals are outshooting Buffalo 25 to 16 and out-attempting them at five-on-five, 37 to 36.

3rd Period

Puck is dropped.

Sandin returned (!) at the 3:26 mark. I don’t think anyone saw that coming.

🚨 3-2 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: Dylan Strome (10). Assists: J. Carlson (19), T. Raddysh (9). Time: 11:05.

Capitals are so good at these redirects in front of the net. Strome nets one after a great setup by John Carlson.

Sabres pull UPL with 2:39 remaining.

🚨 4-2 Washington Capitals. WSH Goal: Jakob Chychrun (9). Assists: J. Carlson (19), P. Dubois (17). Time: 18:30.

Jakob Chychrun ices the game with an empty-netter from waaaay downtown.

Tom Wilson just misses out on a hat trick via an empty-net goal.

The Capitals win 4-2. Not their best outing, but another comeback victory. The Capitals outshot the Sabres 31 to 21 but the Sabres marginally out-attempted them 51 to 50 at five-on-five.
