Bogdan Trineyev scored his first career overtime goal in the Hershey Bears’ 2-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch, Friday night.
The tally was Trineyev’s seventh of the season and continued the young Russian forward’s breakout since the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs last spring.
The play started behind Hershey’s net. Vincent Iorio hit Henrik Rybinski with a breakout pass up the left side. As Rybs entered the offensive zone, he noticed Trineyev beat his man down the opposite wing and set him up perfectly with a pass. Trineyev then deked to his backhand, beating goaltender Matt Tomkins for the walk-off goal.
“Before we scored, Mud made that great save, it gave us power heading into the next shift,” Trineyev said per the Bears. “Then great passing from Vinny and Ryby – without them I can’t just score. They made it simple for me.”
The goal capped another comeback win for the Bears after a slow start; Ethen Frank scored his 19th goal of the season in the second period to eventually force overtime.
After the game, Trineyev, with gauze jammed up his right nostril, was awarded the Bears Head for his performance.
“Good job, Mud, good game,” Trineyev said in his speech. “Bad start, BUT GREAT WIN!! LET’S GOOOOOO!!”
After scoring 9 goals and tallying 17 points in 63 games in his rookie professional season, Trineyev already has 7 goals and 10 points in his first 20 games of 2024-25. Trineyev is on pace to score 22 goals and notch 32 points — both career highs — if he plays in all 43 of the remaining games.
Since arriving in Hershey, Trineyev was tasked by head coach Todd Nelson to be more of a power forward and the alum of Dynamo Moscow has responded, dedicating himself to penalty killing and working hard in the corners. This year, his game is taking the next step and he’s becoming more consistent in his scoring, which may further make him a candidate for an injury recall or full-time job with the Capitals in the future.
