Alex Ovechkin scored career goal number 860 against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, November 3.

Taking a pass from defenseman John Carlson, Ovechkin fired a one-timer on the power play past goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov.

“One-time, SCOARRRRRRRRRRR,” Monumental Sports Network’s Joe Beninati screamed during the telecast. “Alex Ovechkin with a bomb.”

Apparently, not much has changed over the last eight years. Bleacher Report’s Open Ice social media accounts dug out video from the Washington Capitals’ game against the Winnipeg Jets on November 3, 2016. And almost the exact same thing happened that night.

Taking a pass from defenseman John Carlson, Ovechkin fired a one-timer on the power play past goaltender Michael Hutchinson.

“One-timer, SCOARRRRRRRRRRR,” CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Joe Beninati screamed during the telecast. “Alex Ovechkin with a bomb.”

Sure, the branding of the TV channels changed; one goal was a game-winner during overtime, while the other came in regulation during a loss; and the Capitals were wearing different jerseys. But the shot came from the same spot, the left circle; there was the same goal call; and Carlson got the primary assist.
