1st Period

Puck is dropped.

Kochetkov stops Hendrix Lapierre on a breakaway.

Hurricanes have 9 of the first 10 shots on goal in the first nine minutes of the game. Without Lindgren standing on his head, the Hurricanes would be up 3-0 early here.

🚨 1-0 Carolina Hurricanes. CAR Goal: Dmitry Orlov (2). Assists: M. Necas (11). Time:14:01.

A SCOARLOV but for the wrong team. Orlov picked the corner after a turnover and missed assignment in the Caps defensive zone.

Capitals getting a 2 minute long 5-on-3 after the Hurricanes take two consecutive tripping penalties on the same play (Necas, Gostisbehere).

🚨 1-1 tie. WSH PPG: Alex Ovechkin (7). Assists: J. Carlson (7), D. Strome (13). Time: 19:16.

After about 90 seconds of turnovers and flubs with a two-man advantage, the Caps find Ovechkin in the office and he beats Kochetkov high to the net.

Alex Ovechkin scores on Hurricanes’ Pyotr Kochetkov for 860th career goal, now 34 away from Wayne Gretzky

🚨 2-1 Washington Capitals. WSH goal: Brandon Duhaime (2). Assists: N. Dowd (2). Time: 19:49.

Wow. Two goals for the Caps in 33 seconds. They take the lead into the break.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

🚨 2-2 tie. CAR goal: Martin Necas (6). Assists: E. Robinson (4), J. Kotkaniemi (7). Time: 02:29.

🚨 3-2 Carolina Hurricanes. CAR goal: Dmitry Orlov (3). Assists: M. Necas (12), J. Chatfield (1). Time: 05:26.

SCOARLOV Part Deux.

Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dmitry Orlov having a moment after PLD high sticked him in the face. The Caps center thought Orly dived (he didn’t) and Orlov told him to shut the front door if you know what I mean.

At intermission: The Hurricanes are outshooting the Capitals 31 to 15 and out-attempting them at 5v5, 46 to 21.

3rd Period

Puck is dropped.

Ovi almost scores on a breakaway, trying a fake shot and going to his backhand but Kochetkov gets out to knock the puck away.

🚨 4-2 Carolina Hurricanes. CAR ENG: Andrei Svechnikov (5). Unassisted. Time: 19:51.

Hurricanes win 4-2. Hurricanes outshoot the Capitals 44 to 23 and out-attempt them 65 to 29 at five-on-five.

Don’t care, Ovi scored: Canes beat Caps 4-2
