Alex Alexeyev missed practice on Wednesday for personal reasons and now we know why.

Alexeyev and his wife, Kate Alexeyeva, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on Wednesday.

Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir was the first to report the news.

The newfound dad strength comes as Alexeyev will likely be called into game action with several injuries to Capitals defensemen. The 24-year-old blueliner has been a healthy scratch all eight games this season.

Alex and Kate married last May and announced they were having their first child a month later.

Alexeyev’s happy news comes a week after we learned that Connor McMichael and his girlfriend Lene became first-time parents.

“We’ve got a lot of new little Caps coming into the fold,” head coach Spencer Carbery said Thursday.

Congratulations, Alex and Kate!
