Ryan Leonard had his first big game of the season for the Boston College Eagles on Saturday and is being rewarded for it.

The 19-year-old winger scored two goals, including a game-winning shorthanded marker, against Western Michigan in a 4-2 victory for BC. For his efforts, he was announced as the “Hockey East Co-Player of the Week” on Monday.

The two goals gave Leonard four points (3g, 1a) through four games of his sophomore campaign. He recorded 11 shots on goal in the game, giving him 25 total this season. He is the only player in NCAA Division I this year to have recorded 25 shots in only four games.

Leonard won “Player of the Week” honors multiple times last year. He finished his freshman season with 60 points (31g, 29a) in 40 games and as the NCAA’s third-leading goal scorer.

Boston College has started the 2024-25 season 3-1, with their only loss coming to Michigan State, 4-3, on October 12. The Eagles are the second-ranked team in the latest USCHO.com poll, behind only Denver, who beat them in the national championship game last spring.

Leonard was joined by UMass Lowell forward Owen Cole as co-winners of the weekly award. Cole, a senior, recorded four points (1g, 3a) in the River Hawks’ 6-3 win over Merrimack on Saturday.
