Charlie Lindgren’s new mask for the 2024-25 season has been released.

Dave Gunnarsson, the artist behind Lindgren’s masks, unveiled the design on his Instagram, Wednesday. Gunnarsson says Lindgren’s new lid is inspired by the United States flag and the design Lindgren typically wears on his pads.

The mask has a patriotic color scheme reminiscent of Don Beaupre’s iconic design. The sides feature the Capitals’ Weagle logo inside two jagged red lines that Lindgren normally wears on his pads. The top of the mask features the stars and stripes from the United States flag. Lindgren’s nickname “Lindy” remains emblazoned on the mask’s chin.

While the color scheme and design fit with the Capitals who play in the nation’s capital, they could also be a nod to Lindgren’s time with Team USA at this past summer’s World Championship. Lindgren played his first two games for the US men’s national team at the tournament, posting a 1-1 record.

Lindgren took over Washington’s full-time starting spot from Darcy Kuemper halfway through last season, posting a 25-16-7 record to go along with a goals-against average of 2.67 and a save percentage of .911. The career year marked the first time the 30-year-old Lindgren appeared in more than half of his team’s games (50) at the NHL level.

Lindgren’s battery mate in net for Washington this upcoming season, Logan Thompson, also recently unveiled his new mask for the year. The Capitals expect the two goaltenders to compete for starts with Lindgren starting the schedule as the team’s number one.

“It could be [a 1a/1b situation],” MacLellan said this summer. “Charlie’s earned his spot here. Hopefully, we have a competitive situation in net and we’ll work it out from there.”

Kuemper, who Lindgren replaced as starter, was traded by the Capitals to the Los Angeles Kings in June for Pierre-Luc Dubois. Gunnarsson showed off Kuemper’s first new mask away from Washington on Tuesday.
