Max Pacioretty is one of two Washington Capitals players from the 2023-24 campaign still without a new team for next season but that appears likely to change soon.
According to the Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Pacioretty has received offers from “at least three teams” and is expected to decide on his home for the next year shortly. The 35-year-old winger spent last season with the Capitals after signing a one-year, $2 million deal with the club in free agency.
Pacioretty’s contract also came with $2 million in performance bonuses after having back-to-back Achilles tendon tears in the year prior. He tallied 23 points (4g, 19a) in 47 games for Washington, achieving them all.
#ALLCAPS forward Max Pacioretty can earn $2M in games played performance bonuses this season:
-$1M for 10 games played
-$500k for 15 games played

Pacioretty’s last big season in the NHL came during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 campaign with the Vegas Golden Knights where he tallied 51 points (24g, 27a) in 48 games. The veteran winger averaged 14:26 of ice time per game last season with Washington, the lowest average amount he has played in a season where he has played more than five games since his sophomore season in the league with the Montreal Canadiens (12:42).
There have been some rumblings about the Montreal Canadiens potentially seeking a reunion with their former captain but nothing specific has been reported.
If Pacioretty signs, Lucas Johansen will be the lone Capitals player from last season without a home. Johansen, 26, is also the only Bears player to feature in a game for Hershey last year without a contract.
Servalli also linked former Capitals defensemen Justin Schultz and Kevin Shattenkirk to the Edmonton Oilers. NHL training camps start in less than a month.
