With five months to go before Utah’s NHL team hits the ice for the first time, the franchise is one step closer to deciding on a look for their inaugural 2024-25 season.
Uyte LLC, which previously filed to trademark a series of potential team names, has registered eight trademark applications for logos reading “Utah” or “Utah Hockey Club” with the US Patent and Trademark Office. KSL’s Ryan Miller was first to report on the applications Monday afternoon.
Applications for trademarks have been filed for eight logos for the Utah Hockey Club (including the one that circulated last week).

The as-yet-unnamed team already announced plans to use a placeholder name and logo for their first season in Salt Lake City, but the recent trademark applications offer a initial glimpse at what that temporary branding could look like. Each design uses some combination of black, white, and light blue, matching the color scheme owner Ryan Smith used in a graphic in April.
Last week, I told our NHL players why they’ll love Utah. Today, they’re here to see for themselves.

The logos also suggest that the team could bear “Utah Hockey Club” as its placeholder name this fall. All eight designs are available to view on the USPTO website.
Utah’s NHL team has also made progress toward deciding on its eventual non-placeholder name. After inviting fans to vote on 20 options, Smith revealed that the team had narrowed its process down to four names, including Yeti and Mammoth, during an appearance on the Pat McAfee show last week.
The team’s final name and logo will debut in the fall of 2025.
