The Washington Capitals could have two major pieces of their lineup back against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.
Fourth-line center Nic Dowd and top-pairing defenseman Martin Fehervary both participated in line rushes at the team’s practice at Rogers Place on Tuesday.
When asked if that was a positive development for them returning, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery replied, “Yeah. I think so. They continue to trend in the right direction so we’ll see for [Wednesday night].”
Dowd has not played since February 20 after taking a hit in the head from Timo Meier in a game against the New Jersey Devils. Dowd, who was a coveted player at the trade deadline but ultimately not dealt, has missed the last nine games due to the upper-body injury.
Fehervary left the Capitals’ 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on February 17 after falling awkwardly behind the net. The Slovakian rearguard was spotted on crutches after the game due to the lower-body injury.
Both Dowd and Fehervary appear to be on a similar timeline as they both shed their non-contact jerseys at Saturday’s skate.
While those two players are close, Tom Wilson’s status is more muddied at the moment. Wilson missed Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets due to an upper-body injury. He also missed the morning skate due to maintenence.
[Wilson] practiced on Tuesday and was feeling better, but his status for Wednesday should be clearer on the morning of the game.
Puck drop against the Oilers is at 10 pm.
