The Seattle NHL franchise finally revealed its name during a live press conference Thursday in Seattle.
“We are the Seattle Kraken,” a Seattle representative said during an introductory press conference. “We will wear the S on the streets of Seattle once again.”
The announcement comes after a teaser video Wednesday night featuring three fishermen finding a goal light. The name Kraken was first reported to be the name in January.

According to the team, the S-logo is inspired by the Seattle Metropolitans’ jerseys and the colors are inspired by the Puget Sound.
“Our history in the great ice game goes as deep as Puget Sound,” the Kraken’s website reads. “The Seattle Metropolitans were the first American club to hoist the Stanley Cup. They are an eternal part of our city’s history and we pay tribute to them by wearing the ‘S.’ We will aspire to bring the Cup back to Seattle in their honor.”
The S is outlined by “a single tentacle stealthily ris[ing] from below, symbolizing the deep, dark waters of Puget Sound. How many are there? How deep do they go? The real peril lies in what you don’t see.”
The red eye of the Kraken fears out from the top tip of the logo.
“If you’ve seen it, it’s already too late,” Seattle writes. “The eye of the Kraken has been affixed on its prey for some time. Its strike will be swift and devastating. Its opposition overwhelmed and unwary. It will all be over soon.”
The team’s secondary logo is the combination of an anchor and the Seattle Space Needle.
The color scheme utilizes four different shades of blue and red.
“Welcome home, Seattle hockey fans. It is with pride that we will wear the ‘S’ inside of this building from opening day to the end of time.”
Here’s a first look at their new jerseys.
