Quarantining has been difficult for everyone, especially 12-year-old goalie, Brendan Lump.
In a 97-second faux film trailer, the tiny goalie, who’s a Blue Jackets fan and named after Brendan Shanahan, goes through the five stages of goalie grief as he comes to acceptance (that his rink is closed) and learns new skills (like making saves in a football field) to cope during the coronavirus pandemic.
A box of Ovi O’s even makes a cameo.
The fake movie is entitled Out Of My Crease and by the even faker movie studio, Five Hole Films. I love this. The trailer starts as Brendan tries to open his ice rink’s doors, but they are locked. It’s worth noting, Brendan’s hockey jersey has a hot dog on it.
Goalie Brendan, depressed, angrily shoves Ovi O’s into his mouth, lays in bed all day, and fails at other new hobbies like fishing and bike riding. The quarantine life is no fun. Nothing is really quite the same as hockey, you guys.
As Brendan learns to finally accept his new life, he begins learning new skills – like playing hockey baseball and hockey football in a park.
“Brendan is a goalie in Perrysburg, Ohio where he and his dad live,” Brendan’s uncle Beau, a Capitals season-ticket holder, said in an interview. “He’s been playing hockey for about five years but switched to goalie two years ago. He’s pretty good. Other local teams ask him to sub in pretty frequently.”
Brendan’s dad Steve decided to make this movie trailer after Beau’s girls made a similar video unrelated to hockey.
“Brendan’s hoping to be back in goal for real by this time next month,” Beau said.
My fingers are crossed for you, Brendan!
