Hockey equipment manufacturer Bauer announced on Wednesday that it will do its part to help people sick with the novel coronavirus.
“Protection that allows athletes to give everything for their team is our heritage,” Bauer said in a statement. “Right now, we’re all on the same team. We’re repurposing our facilities to make face shields so that medical professionals battling COVID-19 can safely continue to help those most vulnerable.”

The company posted two photos of employees wearing the new face shield.
According to the CBC, the full-face visors will be produced at the company’s innovation center in Blainville, Quebec, and are made of plastic and contain anti-fogging material.
ESPN’s Emily Kaplan is reporting that orders for more than 100,000 units across Canada have already come in.
“In the U.S., honestly, the word is not out yet.” Bauer CEO Ed Kinnaly said to Kaplan. “We’ve been doing outreach to various medical entities….we’re also going to use our social channels to basically let the medical community know that we have the ability to produce these.”
Kinnaly said that Bauer will distribute the face shields in a first-come, first-served basis.
“Any way we can help, we’re going to try,” he said.
