Disturbing defense: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals did not play up to their standards on Wednesday night. They were disjointed and sloppy the entire evening, eventually falling to the Nashville Predators 5-4.

The Caps out-shot the Preds 34 to 24 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 39 to 32.

  • Apologies for the shorter post. I am a tad under the weather and have an early gym time this morning. I didn’t like the Caps at all in this game. The power play was inept, they created nothing of their own offensively, didn’t get great goaltending, and were downright atrocious taking care of the puck in their own zone.
  • Alex Ovechkin scored his 693rd career goal to pass Steve Yzerman (692) for ninth all time in NHL goal scoring.
  • Five goals let in on 24 shots for Braden Holtby. Gotta assume Ilya Samsonov takes the net back on Friday.
  • Caps came into the game 20-1-3 when leading after 40 minutes this season. That one regulation loss came to Nashville in October. Now they’re 20-2-3.
