Connor McMichael won the World Junior Championship with Team Canada, Sunday.
The Capitals’ 2019 first-round pick scored a goal in the third period that helped Canada come back from a 3-1 hole against Russia.
McMichael made the game 3-2 after a Calen Addison point shot bounced off his shin pad, eluding Russian goaltender Amir Miftakhov.

The goal marked McMichael’s fifth goal and seventh point in seven World Junior Championship games, where he predominantly spent his time on the fourth line.
McMichael finished tied for third in total goals among all WJC players and was second only to Barrett Hayton (6) on Team Canada.
Barrett Hayton scored 2:01 later after McMichael to tie the game.

Akil Thomas scored the game-winning goal with 3:58 remaining.

Canada held on to win and a massive celebration ensued. Alexis Lafrenière was named MVP of the tournament.

McMichael took to Instagram to post a team photo with the IIHF trophy. “WORLD CHAMPS🇨🇦 Proud to be Canadian,” McMichael said.

He also posted a picture with his London Knights teammate, Liam Foudy, who made Team Canada too.
Former Capitals captain and head coach Dale Hunter led Team Canaada to gold. Hunter coaches McMichael on the Knights.
