Connor McMichael, Team Canada players drop ceremonial puck at Leafs game after winning World Junior Championship

Washington Capitals 2019 first-round pick, Connor McMichael, was one of eight Team Canada players that were honored before the start of the Toronto Maple Leafs-Winnipeg Jets game on Wednesday.

McMichael, along with Kevin Bahl (ARI ’18), Nico Daws (’20), Ty Dellandrea (DAL ’18), Jamie Drysdale (’20), Aidan Dudas (LAK ’18), Liam Foudy (CBJ ’18), and Akil Thomas (LAK ’18), dropped the ceremonial first puck between Jets captain Mark Scheifele and Leafs captain John Tavares.

Connor McMichael scores goal, wins gold with Canada at 2020 World Junior Championship

Connor McMichael won the World Junior Championship with Team Canada, Sunday.

The Capitals’ 2019 first-round pick scored a goal in the third period that helped Canada come back from a 3-1 hole against Russia.

Alex Ovechkin on Russia beating Sweden in the WJC: ‘We all watch the game. Backy is sad.’

Ivan Morozov scored in overtime Saturday to give Russia the 5-4 victory over Sweden. The goal catapulted Team Russia into the World Junior Championship gold medal game while Sweden will play for bronze.

Back in Arlington, Virginia, Team Russia had a gregarious, gap-toothed cheerleader roaring for them at the Washington Capitals’ practice facility.

And after Morozov scored, Ovechkin made sure to let his good friend, Nicklas Backstrom, know about it.

Connor McMichael scores his fourth goal of the World Junior Championship

Connor McMichael started off the scoring in the Canada-Finland WJC semifinal game, Saturday.

McMichael’s tally began a four-goal first period for Canada, which included three goals in the first 3:55 of the game. It was the most goals Finland had given up all tournament long.

Connor McMichael scores game-winning goal in Team Canada’s 6-1 win over Slovakia

Connor McMichael scored his second goal of the World Junior Championship on Thursday.

The Capitals 2019 first-round pick dented the twine in the second period to give Canada a 2-0 lead. The goal would end up being the game-winner in Team Canada’s 6-1 quarterfinal win over Slovakia.

Connor McMichael promoted to Team Canada’s first line by Dale Hunter

After a strong start to the World Junior Championship, Connor McMichael has been promoted to Team Canada’s first line.

The Capitals’ 2019 first-round pick was placed on the left wing and skated with center Barrett Hayton, Canada’s captain, and right wing Nolan Foote during Canada’s 4-1 win over Team Germany, Monday.

Aliaksei Protas wins bronze medal with Belarus in 2020 Division 1A World Junior Championship

Washington Capitals 2019 third-round pick and WHL scoring phenom, Aliaksei Protas represented Belarus in this year’s Division 1A World Junior Championship. The hulking center led his country in scoring on the way to a bronze medal in world junior hockey’s second tier of the championship.

The Belorussians beat Norway to claim bronze and the Austrians beat Latvia to claim gold and a spot in the top tier competition next year.

Capitals draft pick Martin Haš scores goal, tallies three points in World Junior Championship game

Martin Haš scored his first career goal in the U-20 World Junior Championship, Saturday.

The towering defenseman tallied three points in the Czech Republic’s 4-3 upset loss to Germany on Saturday.

The Capitals selected Haš in the fifth round (153rd overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Here is the live TV schedule to watch games in the 2020 World Junior Championship

Washington Capitals prospect Connor McMichael will play in his first career World Junior Championship game for Team Canada today at 1 PM against Team USA. The game will be aired live on NHL Network across the United States.

Four of Canada’s preliminary round games total will be aired on NHL Network before the knockout round begins. Meanwhile, three of the Czech Republic’s games will be aired on TV which features Capitals draft pick and Czech defenseman Martin Hugo Has. The Czechs won their first game of the tournament this morning against Russia 4-3.

Connor McMichael officially makes Team Canada’s World Junior Championship roster, calls it ‘a dream come true’

Washington Capitals 2019 first-round pick Connor McMichael officially realized a dream on Saturday. After Halifax’s Benoit-Olivier Groulx was released, McMichael officially made Team Canada’s 2020 World Junior Championship roster.

The nod comes after McMichael had a spectacular opening to the season. The center scored three hat tricks and tallied 59 points in his first 27 games (2.19 ppg). McMichael has led the OHL in scoring for large swaths of time and still sits second despite participating in Team Canada’s WJC selection camp and playing six fewer games than first place Arthur Kaliyev, who plays on the Hamilton Bulldogs.

“Every Boxing Day, you tune in with your family and watch Team Canada go to work, so it’s a dream come true,” McMichael said to DurhamRegion.com’s Brian McNair. “I don’t really care where I play, it’s just a dream even making the world junior team, so I’m excited.”
