Former Capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly scored his first career KHL goal in Kunlun Red Star’s 4-0 victory over Admiral Vladivostok, Tuesday.
Smith-Pelly’s second-period tally was a shorthanded goal.

After a turnover at the point by Vladivostok, Kunlun’s Cory Kane poked the puck ahead to Smith-Pelly into the neutral zone. The Stanley Cup champion raced in all alone on Admiral goaltender Anton Krasotkin and slipped the puck five-hole for the goal.

The 27-year-old forward flashed a big smile at the bench after scoring.

Smith-Pelly was named the Dragon of the Game by his teammates in the locker room and was awarded a red ceremonial robe.

In 14:16 of ice time, DSP also fired four shots on goal (tied for most among Kunlun forwards).

So far this season, Smith-Pelly has a goal and an assist in 12 games with Kunlun Red Star. He signed a one-year contract with Kunlun in late October.
Afer not getting a contract from an NHL team over the summer, Smith-Pelly signed a PTO with the Calgary Flames but was released from Training Camp in late September.
Smith-Pelly scored seven goals during the Capitals’ Stanley Cup run in 2018.
