The Carolina Hurricanes celebrated World Kindness Day by saying nice things about every NHL team — even the new Seattle franchise. “We’re so excited for you to join the league!” the Canes tweeted.
But there was one franchise they left out: the Washington Capitals.
The Hurricanes and Capitals are geographical and division rivals, but things turned especially sour in their first-round playoff series last April. The Canes upset the Caps in seven games which featured Warren Foegele breaking TJ Oshie’s collarbone with a dirty hit and Alex Ovechkin knocking out rookie Andrei Svechnikov in a fight. During the preseason, Tom Wilson went after the Hurricanes bench after head coach Rod Brind’Amour yelled at him.
Here’s the tweets.
In honor of #WorldKindnessDay, we thought it would be nice to spread some love to our @NHL friends
